Whether contemporary or traditional, black and white portrait images are always classical in style. To me, the idea behind black and white is a timeless image to express a powerful connection with loved ones. So you don’t want anything in the image to distract you from seeing the faces and the connection.
In this family everyone is dressed in dark colors and the background and chair is dark. Navy, dark grey and brown are better choices than black, as black absorbs the light and makes it difficult to see the clothing texture. I like the clothing to be different and not match. It helps your portrait have more personality.
For this pregnancy portrait the lace is feminine and makes for an elegant portrait.
Black, white and grey doesn’t work very often but the tri colors add to the dynamics for a perfect family portrait with a spunky three year old.
What you wear depends on the color of your pets too. White pets look great against dark clothing like in this portrait. If there is more than one person in the portrait I suggest covering the arms with ¾ or full length sleeves.
Have a lovely day,
